San Francisco photographer Charles Gatewood, who has
documented alternative culture for over forty years, has been called "family photographer of America's sexual underground". Gatewood has been awarded three fellowships from the New York State Council on the Arts, plus the Leica Medal of Excellence for Outstanding Humanistic Photojournalism, and his work has been published and exhibited throughout the world.
Gatewood's books include Sidetripping (with William S.
Burroughs), Forbidden Photographs, Primitives, The Body and Beyond, Badlands, True Blood and Messy Girls. His latest book, Photography for Perverts, is due from Greenery Press in late November. All of Gatewood's books will be available for sale during the open studios weekend, and Gatewood will be present to meet and greet friends old and new.
