One of the things I love about photographing men from the sexual
underground is that there is an authenticity to these men. We are still
fighting to define ourselves in words and images rather than be defined by
a mainstream society that is still exceedingly negative towards us, our
culture and our lives. Even images from our own community can be
problematic. There is nothing wrong with loving Tom of Finland's men, as
long as you don't forget that they're not real and they're not meant to be
actual role models for who we are and what our bodies should look like.
